2024 Kroc Center Onboarding Checklist
Problem
- visually overwhelming, unappealing
- not on brand
- needs to match the feel of the onboarding folder
My Take
- emphasize the font weight of each letters of
“KROC CONNECT” to make it the focal point of the page
- organize information into separate boxes with each a separate color
- apply a negative space illusion using a round shape around the
“KROC CONNECT” to add intentional contrast against the sharped-edged, boxy quality of the layout. It will lead the eye to this area of the page first because the stark contrast evokes a moment of interest to the viewer.
- brand with Kroc logo and follow brand guideline book by using Kroc Center Hawaii and Salvation Army colors and fonts.

2024 “Kroc Connect” Onboarding Checklist
I worked with the Member Services Department at Kroc Center Hawaii to redesign their 2024 Kroc Connect Onboarding Checklist. They have been inserting a dull one-pager into their Welcome Packet folder and asked to turn this document into an engaging, on-brand resource document for new members at the Center.
For this content reformatting task, I began with a “skeleton” sketch. I draw simple shapes that group pieces of information into a beginning-middle-end structure. Starting with a large title box at the top of the page, then grouping the heavy content in the middle, and lastly adding a final box of contact information below to end the document. This streamlines the layout, making the content easier to digest. After sketching, I mood board by turning to Pinterest or Google Images to study existing checklists with interesting designs that would work well for this project. I also gather relevant Kroc Center illustrations and existing graphics to help develop the overall visual “feel” of the final product.
I coordinated reviews with a Member Services Coordinator to work on feedback until reaching final delivery just three days after starting this project. The Member Services Manager and Team were delighted with their newly designed checklist.
